Antique Romantic French Gilt Bronze Jewelry Casket Dresser Box

This pretty gilt bronze jewelry casket or dresser box, circa 1890s-1900s, features a center panel in high relief depicting embracing lovers, surrounded by mother-of-pearl and blue enamel decorations, plus a fitted interior lined with embroidery. Measures 9.2 x 9.2 x 3.1 in and weighs an estimated 2-4 lbs. Carries the hallmark of Ovington of New York and is marked FRANCE. The Ovington Brothers operated jewelry and gift store at 330 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan in the late nineteenth century and likely into the early 20th century. They dealt in fine silver, bronze and porcelain.
